EVA VS Rubber flip-flop, which is better?

Looking for a flip-flop and thinking which is better, EVA or Rubber? Let us first explain the two materials.

Ethylene-vinyl acetate (EVA), also known as poly (ethylene-vinyl acetate) (PEVA), is the copolymer of ethylene and vinyl acetate. The weight percent of vinyl acetate usually varies from 10 to 40%, with the remainder being ethylene. There are three different types of EVA copolymer, which differ in the vinyl acetate (VA) content and the way the materials are used. It is a petroleum product and mostly EVA behaves like plastics.

Positives of EVA Flipflop

  1. Lightweight: EVA flipflop is lighter than rubber flipflop.
  2. Multiple Options: It is available easily commercially thus lot of colour /print options are available to consumers.
  3. No Absorption of water: EVA flip-flops don’t absorb water.

Negatives of EVA flipflop

  1. Non-Degradable & Non-environment friendly: As many plastics it is non-degradable or it is very difficult to degrade. It has a serious impact on the environment.
  2. Skids on slippery surfaces: Being light weight and due to the nature of EVA, it skids on slippery surfaces.

Rubber is harvested mainly in the form of the latex from the rubber tree (Hevea brasiliensis) or others. The latex is a sticky, milky and white colloid drawn off by making incisions in the bark and collecting the fluid in vessels in a process called “tapping”. The latex then is refined into the rubber that is ready for commercial processing.

Positives of Rubber flipflop

  1. Environment friendly and decomposable: Since it is a natural product, a rubber flipflop is easily decomposable.
  2. Anti-Skid: Rubber is heavier than EVA and it doesn’t skid on slippery surfaces.
  3. No absorption of water: Rubber flip-flops don’t absorb water.
  4. Flexible: Rubber flip-flops are more flexible than EVA flip-flops.

Negatives of Rubber Flip-flops

  1. Heavier: Rubber flip-flops are heavier than EVA flip-flops.
We at NoStrain believe that the Rubber flip-flops are much better than EVA flip-flops because of the significant difference in their environment impact. We use 100% natural rubber for our flip-flops. Our rubber flip-flops are manufactured in Thailand. To check our rubber flip-flops collection, you can click here (
